Things to Laugh About in Newcastle United’s History
Newcastle United has had shared of the news in years and some of them good and some, bad.
The current manage of Newcastle United is one of Europe’s elite managers in the person of Rafa Benitez. And at present, it seems that everything is going to be fine. So fans can simply look back at the past years and laugh at some of the disasters that have occurred in this team. The past blunders can put a smile in fans’ lips although quite embarrassing in its context.
Alan Pardew is not new to the headlines; he has been in it many times in the past. Brilliant, dreadful, and downright hilarious news, Alan Pardew was in it. Pardew is always involved in controversy but this is the worst of it all. David Mayler, a midfielder of Hull City, was head-butted by Pardew during their match. A fine of ?100,000 by Newcastle United, and ?60,000 by the FA was meted out to Pardew for the head-butt!
The biggest football LOL moment in Premier League’s history was when Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer, both from the same team, squared up. Players usually square up to players of the opposing team. And this is a common occurrence. But Dyer and Bowyer were both playing for the Toon Army at the time. After the fight, the two players received red cards from being violent. That was bad enough, but they also eventually lost to Aston Villa at home with a score of 3 – 0.
Fans believe that Sunderland is no match to Newcastle United especially at home. But it did happen and with a crushing 3 – 0 defeat at that. However, there was one fan who took the loss seriously and vented all his anger at a poor horse called Bud. The fan, one Barry Rogerson, 45 years old, taunted the horse and punched it on the head. This moronic actions led him to serve a year’s jail sentence. And the years of humiliation following will surely be a lot worse.
Although Newcastle United has had poor managers, Joe Kinnear takes the biscuit. Kinnear’s career had so many funny moments although during those times, it was really quite terrible. The most hilarious of all was when he tried to sign someone who already plays for his team. The event took place during the League Cup game between Swansea and Birmingham. At this time Shane Ferguson was on loan at the Brummies. Ferguson dominated the midfield in a very great game. When Kinnear saw him play, he was impressed and said that he was going to sign Ferguson. The press though it was a joke but they soon realized that he didn’t know that Ferguson is a Newcastle player on loan. What a funny moment!
