How Should I Keep My Fine Watches in Quality Condition?

When most people buy watches, they don’t realize how much goes into keeping them up-to-date and in good working condition. It’s not like having a car, but you do have to take some steps to keep your timepieces running well. This is especially important if you bought a fine watch like a Cartier Santos 100 or a Techno Marine; these are moderately priced watches, so to allow them to deteriorate is just plain silliness. Below are a few guidelines you will want to follow in order to get the most out of your watches.

1. It’s important that you clean your watch with a dry soft cloth or a brush sporadically. Oftentimes, as with most electronic products, dust will get into the gaps of the watch or into the case, and this could indeed make your watch stop working. Also, if you notice perspiration on your watch’s case or strap, it’s also a good idea to clean these as well with a watch cleaner and cotton.

2. Make sure you don’t wear your watch in situations where it could be exposed to really high temperatures. Watches have many protective elements such as water resistance, but I have yet to see a watch that can be exposed to high temperatures and not get ruined. Also, if you have a fine watch, make sure you don’t keep it in the sun for a long time, as this could cause thermal shock!

3. If your watch isn’t shock-resistant, such as many Charriol watches, it’s always best to take it off when you are doing a sports activity such as tennis or golf. Sometimes the jerkiness of your movements can ruin the watch or move around parts inside the watch. Also, if you plan on taking a shower or swimming, make sure the watch is water resistant! If you do have a water resistant watch, the gaskets should be replaced every 12 to 24 months to ensure the quality of the watch is up-to-date.

4. Don’t open the watch. Not only can this void any warranties, it’s also just plain dumb! The parts inside a watch are very small and you could very easily lose some of the pieces in the watch; pieces which cannot be replaced.

5. If you want to buy watches with a leather strap like those of the Chase Durer watches, it’s always a good idea to keep the strap dry. Not only can water and other liquids ruin the leather, but if it’s exposed to water enough, it can stretch, crack, and even break. While some watches do have replaceable leather straps (sold separately), this can cost money and time; time that you might not want to waste on something you could have avoided to begin with!

If your fine watch ever breaks or need something fixed, all you have to do is contact your manufacturer, and they will either have you send it in for repair or suggest a watch service center in your area. The only real …

The Importance Of Sports Equipment

Sports are a very popular interest worldwide as there are many varieties people can choose from to indulge themselves in. Some people are interested in football while others like basketball. Some love the water and prefer swimming, while others like to speed inside a racing car. It doesn’t matter what type of sport you like to play as long as you realize the importance of the equipment and apparel required to play these sports. For playing football you need a football and two goal posts. Individually you may need a good pair of shoes and something to keep sweat off your eyes as it drips from your forehead. It is not so easy to indulge in any sports activity if you don’t have the appropriate sports equipment. The better your sports equipment is, the better will be your game.

The first step to have a good sporting experience is to buy a equipment that is of good quality in terms of its strength and is light in weight. For instance, if the racket with which you play badminton is not of appropriate weight your hand may not respond in the ideal fashion while playing the game. You might have to risk losing your game. But if you hold the racket before making a purchase and gauge as to what weight and length suits your hand the most, you will be able to take a good decision. Your decision at this point in time will go a long way to support your actual game.

In a game such as football, the goal keeper, for instance, would need equipment such as a helmet, shoulder pads and knee pads. You also need to think of the quality here too! For his own sake the goal keeper needs to get a hair cut before the game. The helmet should be fitting the goal keeper properly. The helmet should be refitted if the hair style of the goal keeper has changed. The front portion of the helmet should just protect the head and not become a hindrance by covering the forehead including the eyebrows. The ear holes also should match up with player’s ears. Move the helmet while the goal keeper is wearing it so that any displacement of the helmet can be rectified before the game starts.

Mouth guards are also considered another sporting equipment that should be checked for cleaning and fitting. They should be boiled to refit on the mouth of the player. Shoulder pads allow the goal keeper adequate amount of mobility. The back and front of the shoulder pads should be able to cover the shoulder blades and pectorals respectively.

Athletes should try and wear T-shirts that prevent occurrence of rashes and skin irritations arising from rough straps. Most sports equipments are of protective kind. The primary and the protective equipment are equally important because as the game progresses players become quite aggressive in an attempt to win the game. If these sports equipment are not maintained the players are …

California Kids Getaways, From Horses to Innertubes

California has its theme parks, but where can you take the kids in California besides the usual trips to Disneyland or SeaWorld?

Here are three examples of great getaways for holidays, or for any other time of year that you can take the kids along.

San Francisco

San Francisco has a plethora of attractions for the small-fry ranging from theme parks to museums to aquariums to islands where you can enjoy great hikes and spectacular views of the bay. While many see San Francisco as a romantic city, the truth is you can have just as much fun when you take the kids along.

Start by booking a Kids Suite, like the one we reserved at the Hotel Union Square in the heart of the city. It’s not likely you’re going to see a bunch of kids running through the hallways, or teens congregating in the lobby. This is a more sophisticated hotel that just happens to offer some of its accommodations in a special format that appeals to families.

While parents will love the fact that this is a boutique hotel – with all the extras that the term implies such as brick walls, mosaic murals, warm colors and stylish furnishings – the kids who share the Kids Suite with Mom and Dad are in for an extra special treat. The suite actually is a spacious high-ceiling corner room that has been subdivided into a parents area and a kids area. A free-standing partition also serves as a storage device where games, toys, dolls and anything your kids could want are ready to use anytime.

There is a bed for the kids, and on the kids desk is a Mac computer ready to fire up and play games on the internet. But the piece de resistance is the 47″ flat panel HD TV hanging on the wall with a Wii game system attached – an incredibly fun diversion for kids and adults alike. The Wii system lets you play tennis, baseball or golf or other sports by holding remote controls in your hands and “hitting” the ball with the same physical movements you would use in the real sport. We literally spent hours playing these games with our eight-year-old – one of the most unusual and fun experiences we’ve ever had with our kids in a hotel room.

When you do venture outside, there are many family activities in the city, especially near Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39: Aquarium by the Bay, an arcade-like atmosphere and real up-close animals such as the sea lions lounging by the pier. From here, you can take a ferry to Angel Island, a popular island where visitors hike trails and visit more than 100 historical buildings. Another great attraction in the city is the hands-on science center called the Exploratorium, located near the Presidio at the end of the waterfront near the Golden Gate Bridge. And then there’s Golden Gate Park, where there is a children’s playground including a restored carousel, Alcatraz Island, …

The History of Water Sports

Swimming is noted in many of the classics as relating to heroism and religion. Nicolas Wynman’s Dialogue Concerning the Art of Swimming (1538) is the first recorded written document on swimming methods. Swimming first appeared in the Olympics in 1896, paralleled to the development of the swimming pool. Swimming the English Channel is the most publicized non-Olympic event. It proves excellence in strength and endurance. Matthew Webb from England was the first man to cross the English Channel in 1875, and later Gertrude Ederle of the Unites States of America became the first woman to cross in 1926.

Snorkeling to view exotic fish and aquamarine life is a much-loved vacation adventure. In ancient times snorkels were crafted from hollow reeds found in lakes and marshes. Pliny the Elder, a first century A.D. Roman makes reference to the snorkel, so the activity holds rank as one of the oldest recorded water sports. Loenardo da Vinci created a more modern snorkel when the Venetian senate summonsed him to do so. Divers attached this hollow tube to leather helmets

The present-day diver’s snorkel is typically a J-shaped tube that is open at the top and has a mouthpiece at the other end, usually no more than 2 ft (61 cm) long.

American West-coasters go wild riding the waves on a wooden plank known as a surfboard. Originally, surfing developed in Hawaii in the nineteenth century. It became popular in California in the 1920s, and became a hit youth sport in the 1960s.

Surfers originally used long, cumbersome wooden boards but now ride lightweight synthetic boards that allow a greater degree of maneuverability. Hawaii holds annual international surfing championships.

Water polo originated in England in 1870, and American joined the bandwagon in the early 1900s. Many club and college teams exist for this rigorous sport. Americans gave the game a twist by using a softer rubber ball in a larger pool, a game known as softball water polo. Violence and rough play ended this faction of the sport, and today only the hardball version continues to be played worldwide. Men began Olympic level water polo in 1900, and women first played in the Olympics in 2000.

Diving, another favorite Olympic sport, initiated competition in 1871 off the London Bridge. Diving is now a popular sport at the high school and collegiate level, and is an amazing display of strength, control and agility.…

Basically sports are of two types – indoor and outdoor. Indoor sports include the games like Billiards, Chess, etc whether the outdoor games have Cricket, Football, and Wrestling etc. In ancient time the people of India had many interesting sports for their entertainment and refreshment, especially outdoor sports. In fact, some sports have their origin in the roots of Indian culture like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and boat racing etc.

In present Indian sports scenario, Cricket is the most prominent sport in which India has an excellent track record. Football is another popular game in some parts of India, but Cricket has more popularity among the Indians. There are some world level sporting events in India, but most of them are devoted to Cricket. Also there are events for other games like Hockey Premier League. India has hosted many international sporting events as Hockey World Cup, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship in the past.

Apart from Cricket, Indians have delivered some excellent knocks in International sports. Indians have won many medals in Commonwealth and Asian games. Sports persons have to move towards big cities for better facilities, since in there is the lack of basic requirements in towns. Still Indians have to prove their capabilities in Olympics, the greatest sporting event …

Taiwan Sports Recreation

In Taiwan sports recreation has become increasingly popular, hardly surprising when you consider that it was in 2001 that the two-day weekend was first introduced. Legislation decreased a five and a half day working week, down to five days. This saw more Taiwanese have spare time in which to pursue recreational activities.

There was a sudden growth in Taiwan sports recreation and group activities were and are especially popular. A large number of teams were created to compete against each other, often organised by schools, local companies and government offices. Basketball and softball in particular have become extremely popular, though soccer and baseball have only had limited take up so far. These last two team games are become a well followed sport at international level, although there is a relative lack of take up in playing at a national level.

Taiwan sports recreation has also seen a good take up or racquet and bat sports, with tennis, badminton, and table tennis being especially popular. Water has also played an important role in Taiwan sports recreation growth, and are the most popular sports activities. Swimming and diving in particular have proved to be popular in the sea and in swimming pools. Weekends see the seas and lakes of Taiwan packed as people relax by windsurfing, yachting, canoeing, fishing and paragliding.

Fishing is one of the biggest growing sports activities in Taiwan, although golf is taking over in popularity. World class golf courses are increasingly appearing across the island, and the best clubs have a long waiting list of those wishing to join. Taiwan has invested a lot of money in all of its recreational facilities; this is obvious in the overall quality of the golf courses and golf clubs.

Taiwan sports recreation is also taken up with more strenuous activities as hiking and mountain climbing. It appears that the Taiwanese in their leisure time like nothing more than hiking up the country’s mountains. Taiwan is relatively famous for its hills and mountains and thousands leave the cities each weekend to take in the landscape and try trekking up the slopes.

Taiwan sports recreation is a growing pastime amongst the Taiwanese who find themselves with more spare time than they ever had before. As a result there has been a growth in the provision of equipment and supplies to feed the activities.
